In the two following chapters, Marco Polo describes the various kingdoms of the island of Sumatra, where Polo was forced to stay for five months due to contrary winds that endangered navigation. Java Minor, to distinguish it from the great island of Java (the current island of Java), is actually the island of Sumatra. The passage selected reflects the style of Polo\u2019s Book of the Marvels of the World: short and concise chapters containing accurate news. A style that made the text very popular.
